It is apparent to me as I grow older that the amount of things I do not know far outweighs that which I do know. I mention this because I am looking at a file with the extension CSV and I have no idea what it means and what type of file it is. Or for that matter what program I need to open it. Luckily I have bookmarked on my PC, Uniblue’s File-extension.com. At File-Extension.com I can access free definitions and information on every file extension in existence including file extension CSV. I simply click on the alphabet browser for the front page and I am taken to all a listing of all the extensions starting with the letter C. I scroll down to my full three letter extension and click once more to travel to a page entirely devoted to the explanation. Apparently CSV stands for Comma Separated Values. CSV files are used for data tables and can be read by Microsoft Excel. There, it is just that simple.
Next I need to look up an file extension SIT. The same process yields the knowledge that this file is a Stuffit archive and has to be uncompressed using the Allume Systems Stuffit Expander. I may have many file extensions committed to memory but there are far more of these that I don’t know. Thanks to Uniblue all I need to know is the address of File-Extension.com.
