The piano traces its origin to the early 1700’s and is not, as some might think, descended of reeded keyed instruments such as melodians. It is a unique instrument, as it allows tonal quality to be determined not by the musician but rather their instrument’s maker. Oddly enough, this makes the piano a simple instrument to play and an impossible instrument to master. Pianos are generally divided into two types, those being uprights and grands. Many musicians feel that Kawai pianos offer a more brilliant tone than that of any other maker and at a fraction of the cost of the more famous brands. While grand and baby grand pianos definitely make a stronger decorative arts statement, an upright piano can create an equal quality of sound. Upright pianos from makers such as Kawai are a fabulous cost effective alternative for those desiring superb tonal quality, while lacking space for a grand piano’s footprint.
